Winter Storm Leads to Driver’s Death, Numerous Other Crashes

January 10, 2011 - Indianapolis, IN - The severe winter storm blanketing much of the country created treacherous roadway conditions that led to a fatal car accident on Indianapolis' south side.

According to reports from wthr13.com, the fatal car accident occurred just before noon on January 7 and shut down the stretch of I-65 at I-465 and snarled traffic for miles.

A 23-year-old woman named Michelle Adams, from Louisville, was killed and another person injured in the 2-vehicle accident, which included a car and a tractor trailer. The injured victim, who was in the passenger seat, was not identified in the report. At the time of the fatal car accident, snow had just begun to fall, but the thin layer of precipitation made for slippery driving conditions.

Adams had apparently lost control of her Honda as she tried to pass the truck. Her car then slid in front of the truck, where it was hit on the front passenger side. Adams died from the impact.

The car accident was one of many across Central Indiana and was most likely a result of the wintery weather. Indiana State Police did say that a number of slide-offs and crashes had occurred, mainly on overpasses and bridges, and that efforts were being made to salt those locations.
