Teenager Airlifted to Indianapolis After Serious Car Accident

June 2, 2011 - Cloverdale, Ind. - A teenager is fighting for his life after a serious car accident in suburban Cloverdale. According to a report at the Banner Graphic, the accident involved three vehicles and took place shortly before noon on Tuesday.

Investigators with the Indiana State Police say the victim was driving a Ford Ranger pickup truck on U.S. 231 when he tried to turn from the southbound lanes onto County Road 900 South. The pickup truck then crashed into a GMC SUV that was driving north on U.S. 231. The Ford Ranger rolled several times before crashing into an RV, and landed on the driver's side.

After extricating the victim from the wreckage via the truck's back window, first responders transported him by ambulance to Putnam County Hospital. Doctors there determined the victim required treatment at a trauma hospital, so he was airlifted to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

The victim has been identified as an 18-year-old boy from Poland. Police gave him several traffic citations, including failure to yield. The driver of the GMC SUV, a 53-year-old man from Spencer, suffered minor injuries. The driver of the RV was not injured.
