March 14, 2011 - Indianapolis, IN - Indianapolis police have released details that confirm the death of an Indianapolis teen after she was struck and killed in a March 4 hit and run accident on Franklin Road.
Fox59 reports that Hadleigh Cave, 13, was playing a game of "chicken" with 3 other friends. The teens were testing their ability to run across Franklin Road near the intersection of Thompson Road around 11:22 p.m. when Hadleigh failed to make it across. She was struck by what police describe as a Chevrolet Cavalier whose driver failed to stop and return to the scene.
Police had responded to a previous call reporting people darting into traffic at the intersection, but could find no suspects at the time. After the accident, Hadleigh was transported to a hospital where she passed away the next morning after never having regained consciousness.
Hit and run accidents are devastating to the victim and their family because there is little to do about recovering from the damages and loss. Failing to stop and render aid at the scene of an accident is a serious offense and prolongs the time a victim is without proper medical attention. You can still file a claim with your insurance company even if there is no other driver to hold accountable for your accident.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that 693 fatalities occurred in Indiana in 2009 because of car accidents.
