Teen Driver Charged in Indianapolis Hit and Run Accident

June 3, 2011 - Indianapolis, Ind. - A 16-year-old girl is facing serious charges after she hit a motorcyclist and then fled the scene. According to a report at the Indianapolis Star, the motorcyclist suffered serious personal injuries in this hit and run accident, which occurred around 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Police says the teenage driver was behind the wheel of a Kia SUV. She was driving on the Westside of Indianapolis when she swerved into oncoming traffic near the intersection of Rockville Road and Lynhurst Road. The victim was ejected from his Suzuki motorcycle and thrown to the ground; meanwhile, the teenage girl didn't stop and continued driving.

Several witnesses saw the accident and followed the driver while calling 911. The witnesses followed the SUV until she was pulled over by police officers on West Vermont Street. The driver has been arrested and charged with reckless driving and fleeing the scene of an injury accident.

The victim, a 29-year-old man from Lexington, Kentucky, suffered numerous injuries to his head and body. Police haven't said if he was wearing a helmet at the time of the car accident. He's currently receiving treatment at Methodist Hospital, but the seriousness of his injuries hasn't been released.
