According to a news release from prnewswire.com, children with an aggressive and often fatal form of cancer known as neuroblastoma may soon be able to undergo a new treatment, which centers around blocking a specific protein known as cell checkpoint kinase 1 (CHK1).

This in turn would strengthen the effects of chemotherapy and weaken the effects of neuroblastoma cells. Clinical trials of the treatment are expected to begin over the next few years.
