February 10, 2011 - Fishers, IN - Snow and ice wreaked havoc on driving conditions over the weekend, and resulted in the closure of I-69 in southern Hamilton County for almost 3 hours.
According to reports from WTHR Eyewitness News, around 7 p.m. February 5, the driver of a silver Dodge Intrepid attempted to merge too quickly into the northbound lanes of I-69. As a result, the vehicle slid sideways into the snow and was then hit in the side by a Ford Focus, also traveling northbound. The names of both drivers and both passengers involved in the Hamilton County accident were not released to the news media.
One of the passengers in the Intrepid, an adult female, was taken via helicopter to Methodist Hospital in critical condition, and the car's driver and other occupant went to Fishers Fire Station 91 as part of the investigation efforts. The news resource did not state their condition. Meanwhile, the driver of the Ford Focus, also an adult female, was also taken to the hospital to undergo examination.
As a result of the Hamilton County accident, the stretch of I-69 from 106th to 116th Streets was closed for investigations and cleanup. Authorities continue to investigate the crash.
