Man Injured in Columbus Motorcycle Accident on Interstate 65

May 24, 2011 - Columbus, Ind. - An Indianapolis man was seriously injured on Friday when he was hit by a car while riding a motorcycle on Interstate 65.

According to a report at WTHR Indianapolis, the accident was caused by a driver who failed to yield to a group of motorcyclists.

Police say the victim, a 21-year-old man from Indianapolis, was riding with some friends on the northbound side of Interstate 65 on Friday afternoon. A car attempted to pass the motorcyclists and became frustrated when he couldn't overtake them.

After finally passing the group of motorcyclists in the right-hand lane, the driver merged lanes and crashed into the victim just north of Columbus. The victim suffered serious personal injuries when he was thrown from his motorcycle during the Columbus motorcycle accident.

Police say the victim was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. First responders treated him on the scene before he was airlifted to Methodist Hospital. The severity of his injuries is unknown at this time, and his current condition has not been released.

Police say the victim was driving with a suspended license. The driver of the car, a 25-year-old man from Georgia, was cited for failing to yield to another motorist. He was not injured in the collision.
