Man Arrested for Girlfriend’s Death in Hamilton County Drunk Driving Crash

Posted on Apr 11, 2011

April 11, 2011 - Hamilton County, IN - A Noblesville man's decision to get behind the wheel while intoxicated proved fatal.

According to reports from IndyStar, at around 10:45 p.m. on April 1, 29-year-old Brent Ward was driving with 33-year-old passenger Kari Broxson, his girlfriend, even though he had a blood alcohol content of .18.

While Ward was driving west on 113th Street, west of Indiana 238, he lost control. The Hamilton County Sherriff's Department speculates that Ward swerved on and off the road several times before hitting a tree, immediately killing Broxson.

When authorities arrived to the scene of the Hamilton County drunk driving crash, they sent Ward to Methodist Hospital for leg pain. According to the article, a deputy was sent to the hospital with Ward because of how distraught he was after the accident.

Ward was arrested after receiving treatment and is charged with 2 felony counts for the Hamilton County drunk driving crash. If convicted of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, causing death, and of operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol content higher than .15, Ward could face more than 15 years in prison and a $20,000 fine. As of the article's April 3 posting, Ward was in the Hamilton County Jail with a $10,000 bond.
