Indianapolis Man Seriously Injured in Motorcycle Crash

June 2, 2011 - Indianapolis, Ind. - Police believe that a serious motorcycle accident over the holiday weekend may have been caused by a drunk driver. According to a report at WRTV Indianapolis, the motorcycle crash occurred shortly before noon on Monday.

Police are still investigating this accident, but initial reports indicate that several motorcyclists were riding together when one of the motorcyclists crashed into another. The group was riding on Shelbyville Road in Indianapolis and the crash occurred in the 8700 block. One of the riders, a 68-year-old man from Indianapolis, was ejected from his motorcycle, which rolled over several times before coming to a stop. This motorcyclist suffered serious personal injuries and was transported by ambulance to Wishard Memorial Hospital. He is currently in serious condition. Police have not said if he was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. His identity has not yet been released.

The other motorcyclist, who has not been identified, was not seriously injured. Investigators have determined that alcohol likely played a role in this Indianapolis accident, but they have not disclosed who was driving under the influence or their blood-alcohol content. Charges may be forthcoming after police finish their investigation.
