January 3, 2011 - Indianapolis, IN - A 33-year-old woman was critically injured in a January 1 hit and run car accident that also resulted in her Oldsmobile to catch on fire and render her unconscious.
The IndyStar.com reports that Tabetha Lynn pulled over along the side of the 4600 block of East 16th Street around 9:30 p.m., turned on her vehicle's emergency flashers and stepped out of her car, which had broken down, when an SUV hit the back of her vehicle.
The force of the impact caused Lynn to be pushed into the middle of the street, where she lost consciousness. Lynn's Oldsmobile was pushed further down the street, where it then caught fire.
According to a police report from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, witnesses said the SUV appeared to be a tan or brown Jeep, but could not agree if the Jeep's driver turned east or west onto 16th Street.
As of January 3, Lynn was still at Wishard Memorial Hospital. No further information about the hit and run driver was available as of that time.
According to Indiana state code, drivers of any motor vehicles who are involved in an accident in which there is injury, death or entrapment must stop, render aid and contact police. When you've been involved in a hit and run car accident in which the other driver is identified, in addition to pressing criminal charges, you may be able to file a personal injury claim to seek compensation for your injuries, as well.
