Driver Passes Out Behind the Wheel in Muncie

June 14, 2011 - Muncie, Ind. - Five people suffered personal injuries on Friday, shortly after 10 p.m., after an intoxicated driver passed out behind the wheel and crashed head-on into another vehicle. According to a report at The Star Press, the driver was high on prescription pills, cocaine, and marijuana.

Police say the driver, a 49-year-old woman from Muncie, was driving erratically in the moments before the accident. She was behind the wheel of a Ford Aspire on Kilgore Avenue when she made a u-turn into a parking lot in the 3700 block, backed her car into a pole, and continued eastbound on Kilgore Avenue. At this time, she passed out. A 13-year-old girl sitting in the front seat attempted to control the car, but it crashed head-on into a Ford F-350 pickup truck. The pickup truck then slammed into a CSX train.

There were 4 children in the Ford Aspire when the driver blacked out. They suffered personal injuries along with the driver. The victims are receiving treatment at various hospitals in Indianapolis, including Methodist Hospital and Riley Hospital for Children. Remarkably, the driver and passengers in the Ford F-350 truck escaped serious injuries.
