Driver Offered Plea Deal in Indianapolis Amputee Accident

June 6, 2011 - Indianapolis, Ind. - A driver, who seriously injured a pedestrian back in January, has been offered a plea deal. According to WRTV Indianapolis, the hit-and-run driver critically injured a mother of 4 that her legs were amputated following the accident.

The driver, a 49-year-old man, was charged with several felonies stemming from the January car accident, including leaving the scene of an injury accident and being a "habitual traffic violator." The victim, a 33-year-old woman, was pulled over on the side of East 16^th Street after her car ran out of gas. As she exited her vehicle, she was hit by the driver, who then fled the scene.

The victim suffered serious personal injuries, which have required nearly 15 surgeries to date. Both of her legs were amputated above the knee, and her medical bills total close to a million dollars. The victim no longer has a job with 4 children to care for.

The driver may accept a plea deal; if not, he'll go to trial this week. The victim believes the driver shouldn't have been offered a plea deal due to the face he was driving with a suspended license, in addition to having 6 previous alcohol arrests on his record, many of them traffic related.
