Double Dose of Fatal Accidents Stalls I-65 Traffic for Hours

January 14, 2010 - Indianapolis, IN - Indiana State Police had a busy day January 13, when 2 separate fatal accidents jammed northbound traffic on a particular stretch of I-65 throughout much of the day.

The IndyStar reports that right before 2 p.m., just 3 hours after troopers reopened lanes, they were closed again because of a second fatal accident. The first accident happened around 5 a.m., near the Boone-Hendricks county line, just north of Indianapolis. Steve Woosley, a 60-year-old tractor trailer driver, rear-ended another tractor trailer as it pulled back into traffic from the shoulder.

Woosley was killed in the truck accident, while 32-year-old driver Stephen Grogg, of Clarksburg, West Virginia was not reported injured. John Hernandez, a 48-year-old passenger of Grogg's, was taken to St. Vincent Hospital for observation.

The second crash occurred when 46-year-old Scott Cameron, travelling in a Toyota Highlander, rear-ended Teresa Oliver, a 45-year-old woman from Lafayette. Oliver's Oldsmobile Cutlass smashed into a guardrail as a result. After workers pulled Oliver and another passenger, 51-year-old Pamela Duley from the wreckage, Oliver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Duley and Cameron were taken to St. Vincent Hospital, and Cameron, who said he was glancing at his cell phone just before the crash, was released after receiving treatment for a cut on his head.

That fatal car accident is still under investigation, troopers said.
