Children Among Those Injured in West Indianapolis Car Crashes

Posted on Nov 04, 2010

Nov. 4, 2010 - Plainfield, IN - The early morning hours of Thursday, October 14 proved quite dangerous, as a half-dozen people were hospitalized after 2 west Indianapolis car crashes occurred within 1 hour.

WTHR Channel 13 Eyewitness News
reports that both car accidents were the result of drivers who ran red lights. The first accident occurred on Main Street in Plainfield shortly after midnight. A car ran a red light on the section of Main Street due west of SR 267 and hit an SUV.

The driver of the car that ran the red light was transported by a Lifeline helicopter to Methodist Hospital; meanwhile, the SUV's driver was taken to Wishard Hospital for lesser injuries.

Neither driver was named, but at the time of the accident, police opened an investigation to determine whether alcohol was involved.

At approximately 1 a.m., another accident occurred at Moller and 46th Street, also on Indianapolis' west side. A driver crashed into a minivan, which caused the van to collide with a guardrail. The van's female driver was trapped inside and had to be cut from the van.

The 3 children in the van, ranging from 2 to 6 years old, were not hurt, but they were taken to the hospital for precautionary measures. The children's mother was taken to Wishard Hospital after paramedics freed her from the vehicle.

Police also did not mention either driver by name, or release any further information about the driver who ran the red light, but said that accidents are a frequent occurrence at that location, as trees create a blind spot.
