Car Splits in Half in Delaware County Accident, Claims 2 Lives

July 7, 2011 - Delaware County, Ind. - A car accident in rural Delaware County has left an 18-year-old and 20-year-old dead and another, also 18, injured, TheIndyChannel.com has reported. The fatal Delaware County accident took place just before 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 22 on Eaton-Albony Pike in Niles Township.

Emergency responders said that the car had hit a tree with such great force that the vehicle had been split in half, with part of it being thrown into a nearby pond.

All of the victims were thrown from the vehicle. Myles Sworboda, 20, and Jake Monroe, 18, were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Dylon Strunk, 18, was transported to a nearby hospital and is reportedly in good condition.

Lt. Arlan Johnson of the Delaware County Sheriff's Department said that the driver must have been going more than 100 mph before the crash occurred, and that it was the worst accident scene he had seen in his 18 years of crash investigations.
