Car Accident in New Castle Kills 2, Injures Another

July 22, 2011 - New Castle, Ind. - According to a news report from Indy Star, authorities believe that a New Castle resident's negligent driving, of weaving in traffic, led to her car slamming into the back of another vehicle stopped at a red light. This caused a fatal accident in New Castle on Tuesday, July 19.

Samie E. McBride, 67, was driving a Ford Taurus when, at about 8:45 p.m., she rear-ended a Plymouth Breeze stopped at Ind. 3 and Trojan Lane. The Plymouth erupted into flames and both occupants were killed.

The Taurus continued for approximately 200 feet into the intersection, flipping and seriously injuring McBride, who was airlifted to Methodist Hospital in serious condition.

The occupants of the Plymouth, Stacy Penrose-Sweigart, 32, and husband Jason Sweigart, 30, are survived by their 5-year-old son.

Police are still investigating the exact cause of the accident.
