Nov. 4, 2010 - Indianapolis, IN - Alcohol was most likely at play in an Oct. 28 crash in rural Rush County that left 5 Kingstown High School students with injuries. Teen driver Perry Gorman was operating a Dodge Neon at the time of the crash, when it ran off North Goose Road and smashed into a tree at about 4 a.m.
WTHR Channel 13 Eyewitness News reports it has obtained the accident report and that Rush County officers checked off a box which states the driver had been drinking and driving at unsafe speeds. It will be up to 2 weeks before police can obtain blood tests, and as of now, no charges have been filed.
Meanwhile, Gorman escaped the wreck without serious injuries. The other 4 passengers sustained serious injuries. One victim, 16-year-old Aaron Jackson, was thrown from the Neon into a ditch and then pinned underneath the car once it landed.
Jamie Bush, 18, is undergoing hospitalization at Wishard Hospital for multiple broken bones, which will require surgery. Along with Aaron Jackson, who is in critical condition, victims Phillip Jackson, 18 and Austin Spradlin, 16, are at Methodist Hospital.
Jon Jackson, a witness who helped victims at the scene of the car crash, said Gorman was not at the scene of the accident when he initially spotted the vehicle and spoke to the victims; but that Gorman returned to the accident scene shortly afterward, after asking for mouthwash at a friend's house.
