13 Conditions Added to Social Security Compassionate Allowance Program

Posted on Oct 22, 2011

According to a press release from the Social Security Administration (SSA), 13 new conditions have been added to the Compassionate Allowances program. When you suffer from a disabling condition that prevents you from working, you could qualify to receive Social Security disability benefits.

The Compassionate Allowances program fast-tracks disability decisions so that claimants with especially severe conditions don't have to wait
months or even years before receiving disability benefits. They can, in fact, receive their benefits within days of applying.

The 13 new conditions that have been added, fall under the immune system and neurological disorders and include:

  • certain cancers;
  • some rare genetic disorders of children;
  • adult brain disorders;
  • idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis;
  • early-onset Alzheimer's disease; and
  • other types of disorders.

The Compassionate Allowances program, which was first launched in 2008, now has a total of 113 conditions that may qualify for its available resources.

In addition, SSA has announced a new small grant program where graduate students will get a chance to help streamline the disability process. They will receive a small stipend for their contribution.

If you need help with your disability application or any aspect of the process, you should immediately consult with an Indiana Social Security attorney.
