1 Killed in Indianapolis Truck Accident

June 1, 2011 - Indianapolis, Ind. - A person was killed on Monday in an early-morning truck accident on Interstate 74 in Indianapolis. According to a report at WRTV Indianapolis, the accident occurred around 4:30 a.m. on Monday morning.

Police say a box truck was traveling eastbound on Interstate 74 when the driver fell asleep behind the wheel. The truck veered off the side of the road near the interchange with Interstate 465 before crashing and rolling over several times.

Pictures from the scene show a white box truck that sustained severe damage, especially to the passenger's side. The truck landed on the passenger side, trapping the driver's wife, who unfortunately was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity hasn't been released. The driver of the truck, a man who has also not been identified, suffered personal injuries but is expected to survive.

This was the second overnight crash involving a truck in Indianapolis. Several hours prior to this accident, a pair of semi-trucks collided on Interstate 70 in a high-speed crash that injured one of the drivers. Police say the accident occurred as a rear-end collision. The victim has not been identified but is receiving treatment.
