“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” - Margaret Mead
Amy Van Ostrand – Indianapolis Attorney
Amy was born and raised in a California town the size of a postage stamp, but adopted the Midwest as her home in 1996, when she began attending the University of Illinois College of Law. After graduating from Illinois in 1999, Amy moved to Indianapolis to begin her legal career as a business litigator with the law firm of Baker & Daniels, and later at Sommer & Barnard. In 2002, Amy began a three-year sabbatical from her legal practice to launch Indiana Proactive Animal Welfare, Inc. ("Indiana-PAW"), a non-profit organization that serves Indiana’s staggering homeless pet population. Indiana-PAW has become one of Indiana’s most visible and respected non-profit agencies, and Amy serves as its Executive Director.
In 2005, Amy returned to the practice of law, but this time, to an area of law that would allow her to help everyday people navigate through what is often the most challenging time of their lives. That is, Amy began practicing in the area of personal injury law, representing people and their families who have been injured or killed due to the negligence of others. In 2008, Amy proudly joined The Hensley Legal Group, after having been with Ladendorf & Ladendorf for several years. She feels fortunate to be a part of The Hensley Legal Group, a firm with a reputation for aggressively taking on the insurance industry and fighting for the rights of our clients.
Over the years, Amy has helped try cases before juries with successful results. She is also a skilled appellate attorney with experience authoring briefs to the Indiana Court of Appeals and the Indiana Supreme Court. Amy has also had the privilege of serving as a frequent faculty lecturer for the Indiana Trial Lawyers Association (ITLA) and the Indiana Continuing Legal Education Forum (ICLEF). She has also written articles for Verdict, the Indiana Trial Lawyer’s Association’s publication.
Amy is actively involved in her community, working with dozens of animal welfare agencies across Indiana, and serving as an 8-year member of the Indianapolis 500 Festival Float Committee. She loves Indiana, and never misses an opportunity to deepen her ties here.
